Bunting 1
"Bunting 1", Oil on Canvas Panel, 6"x8"
While on the west coast of Mexico, many of these birds visit our property every day. We have built several bird baths that they love to splash around in.

Morning Commute on the Mexican Coast
"Morning Commute on the Mexican Coast", Oil on Canvas Panel, 11"x14"
This is a typical morning scene just south of Zihuatanejo, Mexico in the fishing village of Puerto Vicente Guerrero. Many flocks of Pelicans head down the coast in the morning and then back in the evening. When they fly overhead they are absolutely quiet.

Nest Eggs
"Nest Eggs", Oil on Canvas, 8" x 10", $75
On Easter Sunday I went down to work in our garden and much to my surprise a Mallard duck had built a nest on the ground and laid ten eggs in it. It had built the nest from wheat straw mulch I had put around our garlic plants. A day later we noticed that it had laid still another egg in the nest. Unfortunately the eggs did not hatch. After a week, a varmint got into the nest and took some of the eggs. The duck left and never returned.

Escape to Mexico
"Escape to Mexico", Oil on Canvas Panel, 14x11, Plein Air, Private Collection
Some friends came down to visit us in Mexico about eight years ago. These pink flamingos got into their luggage to make their escape to Mexico. They now hang out among some of our tropical plants.

Morning Feeding
"Morning Feeding", Oil on Canvas, 12x16, $175
This is the last in a series of three. I was really surprised that this Hummer kept fluttering about, from one flower to another, while I photographed it feeding off of nearly every Gladioli in the patch. It really wasn't bothered that I was standing just a few feet away.

Hummer on Gladiola
"Hummer on gladiola", Oil on Canvas, 12x12, $150
So when I went down to the garden to water today, I took my camera to photograph the gladioli. To my surprise, a hummingbird flew up and proceeded to feed off of all the gladioli. it was just a few feet in front of me. It went from flower to flower and could have cared less if I was there.

Hanging Out
Some days these guys just show up and hang out on this feeder we have hanging under a maple tree. They certainly don't care if I am nearby. Maybe they think I am bringing more birdseed.
