Still Life With Monarch

"Still Life With Monarch", Oil on Canvas, 12"x12"

We have many plants in our yard that attract Monarch butterflies. Some don't survive the summer. Found this one and brought it inside to study.

Puddle Jumper

"Puddle Jumper", Oil on Canvas, 12"x12"
Last Month our eight year old came to visit for a week and we took him out to Bandon By the Sea on the Oregon Coast. we got up early one morning for the low tide. After looking at all the tide pool life he decided that the best thing to do was run around jumping over and into all the pools of water on the beach. I wish I had that energy!

Sous Chef in Blue

"Sous Chef in Blue", Oil on Linen Panel, 8"x8"
Spent a week in Arcos de la Fontera, Spain this spring. Snaped this picture of a young woman off to work at Bar la Carcel. A very interesting White Hill Town where the streets were only about eight feet wide. Some were close to six feet wide, like where we almost got our car stuck! Where the streets were wide enough, the bars and cafes would throw out some tables and chairs on the side of the street leaving just enough room for a car to pass. The sides of most cars were scratched and dented from trying to navigate the narrow and winding streets.

"Mello Fellow Plucking His Cello", Oil on Canvas, 11"x14"
On a recent trip to Portland, I dropped by the Portland Farmer's market. In addition to spectacular displays of fruits, vegetables and flowers, there was a good variety of street performers.

Horse and Buggy

"Horse and Buggy", Oil on RayMar Panel, 10"x12", Plein air
Plaza Virgen de los Reyes is one of the many places to pick up a horse and buggy ride in Sevilla, Spain. Thought this one was interesting with a statue of Juan Pablo II seeming to be blessing them. In the background in Cathedral Sevilla which took over 100 years to build. Original concept was to build such an oversized and fancy Cathedral that everyone would think they were mad!

Fruit with Creamer and Bottle

"Fruit with Creamer and Bottle", Oil on Canvas, 11"x14"
Unfortunately, I ruptured my Achilles tendon playing soccer so I will probably be painting more still life paintings in the studio. Either that or painting from photos. Looks like it will be a couple of months until I will be full weight bearing and able to get out for plein air painting sessions.

For the Birds

"For the Birds", Oil on Canvas Panel, 11"x14", Pleinair
While painting this barn one morning, a flock of doves flew in and landed on the roof. Then they started flying into and out of the loft as I painted. Historic Bailey Farm near Roseburg, Oregon.

Jane's House

"Jane's House", Oil on Canvas Panel, 8"x10", Pleinair

Jane lives on a great little farm in Elkton, Oregon surrounded by a beautiful mixed forest. Looks like leaves are starting to collect on the roof! Her studio is on the upper floor and one year she bought a larger easel and had to raise the roof to allow it to fully extend.

Field of Dreams

"Field of Dreams", Oil on Canvas, 11"x14"

I found this old pickup in the foothills of the Sierras. It seemed pretty well preserved for being abandoned in an empty field.
